PRACTICE GROUPS
Porpoise Ready (formerly White)
This is the introductory level to the competitive side of PPSC programming where practices are focused on developing and refining the competitive strokes. This preparation is also geared towards competing in the four strokes and the individual medley at swim meets on a regular (one to two times a month) basis.
Porpoise Challenge (formerly Blue group)
The Blue group is the final step in the age group development (12 & under) in the PPSC program. Swimmers in this group complete practices and “sets” that can be rigorous in distance and intensity, while simultaneously beginning to learn how to develop an equal amount of mental focus on technique and efficiency. This will help to establish a sense of ownership in their preparation for performance that is expected at the next level. Swimmers in this group are expected to be able to keep track of time intervals and sets that can at times become complex. There is also a degree of attendance expectation in this group so that swimmers can develop over the course of a season to perform their best at the end of the season.
Porpoise Achieve (formerly Black group)
This group is the preparatory group for the final, Senior level group of PPSC. Swimmers in this group are expected to be intrinsically and inherently motivated through guided goal setting meetings for mid and end of season championship meets. Volume and intensity increase significantly in this group not just for performance, but also in preparation for the senior group. Time intervals, stroke count, knowledge of personal best times, and goal times are expected with this group. A high degree of consistent attendance is expected with this group to best support these swimmers in their end of season goals.
85% attendance minimum.
Porpoise Performance (formerly seniors)
This is the final group in the PPSC competitive program. Swimmers in this group are expected to be highly motivated and focused on their end of season goals that are developed in goal meetings for the end of both short and long course season. Knowledge of personal best times in no less than six events are expected in order to complete practices effectively, and a high degree of focus on repeat times, stroke technique and efficiency are expected through stroke counting and repeat times. Practices can be rigorous in volume and intensity. This group follows a season plan that develops over the duration of both short and long course seasons. Practice attendance is just short of mandatory for these purposes.
90% attendance minimum.
